Job Summary

•Under the supervision of the Manager, Engineering and Design, the Designer will provide design and drafting services for proposals and projects. Design and drafting assignments will include general assembly drawings, equipment detail drawings, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, process flow schematics, P&I drawings, etc.

•The Designer should have experience designing and drafting process air systems in the pulp and paper or other related industries. Typical equipment includes air system ductwork (incl. OEM’s such as fans, burners, dampers, expansion & articulating joints), heat recovery equipment (air/air heat exchangers), drying equipment such as yankee hoods, mist removal systems, dust removal systems, etc.

•The Company uses AutoCAD (Windows OS), with extensive use of 3D and some 2D, as well as several programs developed internally that facilitate 3D ductwork design. Inventor is used for some product lines.

•Depending on capabilities, the Designer may be asked to participate in the following tasks: project kickoff meetings; design review meetings with customers, consultants or installation contractors; field measurements; field installation supervision of designed equipment; preparation of purchasing requirements; preparation of drawings and applicable design documentation.

•The Designer is expected to work as a team player in cooperation with other company personnel such as Project Managers, Designers, Engineering resources and Purchasing and Traffic personnel. The position may require some travel to pulp and paper mills in North, Central or South America.

Responsibilities

•Provide technical and administrative design activities, including design, drafting and checking, for contract and non-contract projects.
•Recommend and develop standard designs and drawings.
•Supervise the issue, revision, control and filing of drawings for assigned activities.
•Develop project-specific manpower estimates and schedules for assigned design activities and to assist in the development of standardized estimates and schedules.
•Plan and monitor manpower requirements for assigned activities.
•Maintain manpower levels in accordance with project schedule requirements.
•Ensure conformance to established procedures within assigned projects.

Education

•Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical), CEGEP or Technical School Diploma, or equivalent, with specialization in mechanical design, and/or equivalent.

Experience & General Requirements

•Minimum 3 years (B. Eng) to 7 years (Cegep or Technical Diploma) progressive experience in a related design environment. Experience in the design of similar process equipment is a valuable asset

•The Designer must have the ability to communicate effectively in English, since projects are based mostly in the United States.

•The ability to communicate in Spanish is a valuable asset and will support our success and growing business in Latin America.
