I totally understand your situation. First of all, what type of law are you studying. Is it criminal law, corporate law, etc. Depending of which law the rules change. If you are studying corporate law, you need to get your degree over there and then you can do your masters over here and go from there. Criminal law is completely different, so if you are studying this type of law, I suggest you do some investigating as to what other choices you might have in law. I read all of the above posts, and the one question that you totally needed answered, wasn’t. I hope you are able to understand what I’m writing since my Spanish writing isn’t the best. I am American and I totally know how it works in my country. If you are planning on coming here, first off, I encourage you to finish your studies over there. I know Silvia has already said this but I need you to understand that if you come here unprepared you will find it very difficult to obtain those things that you want most. In order for you to have a "good" job you need to come prepared, this way you can apply for the various "scholarships" that are available to people in your situation. I highly do not recommend that you come here and go to a "technical" school. They are truly a joke and believe me you will not get such a great job with that degree and they are a true waste of time and money. Remember in a technical school a degree is all you get and that won’t get you the good jobs. It is in no way even close to attending a university or a college. If you are going to make the sacrifice of coming here, I suggest you go full throttle. Go for it all. This is the one country in where you can really achieve all of your dreams, it will just take some work and some sacrifice but in the end it will all be worth it. I understand money is an issue, but just so you get an idea, first year associates in a law firm make a minimum of $125,000 a year. I know because I work in one. I’ve been working in a law firm for 13 years, so I know how it works. So make the sacrifice, take out loans if you have to, in a few years you will have enough money to pay that back and then some.

    Good luck

P.S. Just so you can have an idea of what you’re getting yourself into. Lawyers in this country work nearly 7 days a week (especially in the East Coast) it isn’t "easy" money. Most lawyers retire or move onto something else within a few years because the stress is overwhelming. So the turnaround rate for lawyers in this country is extremely high. And the hours are not normal either. It is not a 9-5 job. You can find those jobs, but they are rare. Most lawyers work 9-10 everyday and weekends are almost always spent in the office and you can forget vacations. That’s it. I hope this helps. If you need anything else, feel free to email me.

By the way, Silvia & Victor very good advice.
